About Dr. Clearfield
With 33 years of medical experience, Reno, Nevada physician, William Clearfield, D.O. of the Clearfield Medical Group provides patients with successful treatment plans that benefit their health conditions and boost their overall quality of life.
Emphasizing diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle, Dr. Clearfield was the “go to” guy when other physicians, even specialists at NYU and the University of Pennsylvania were baffled, in his adopted hometown of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Dr. Clearfield graduated from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, now Des Moines University, in 1978. He interned at Metropolitan Hospital in downtown Philadelphia and followed that up with a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Family Medicine.
In 1984 he tested and successfully implemented one of the first individualized computer generated diet programs (on an Apple IIc no less) and instituted the Medifast Protein Sparing Modified Weight Loss program at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital in Kingston, Pa.
In 1990, a curious combination of family events, a cousin who, after ten years of fertility issues, became pregnant after three sessions, and a chance encounter with a ninety-year-old practitioner from the Peoples Republic of China, on a trip back home, led him to UCLA’s Medical Acupuncture Physicians training.
Dr. C. took to acupuncture quickly, becoming the second medical doctor in the Wilkes, Barre-Scranton area to offer acupuncture in his practice. He became. Elected to the board of directors as the education director of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture in 1992, Dr. C began a student with experienced acupuncturists which continue to this day.
After election as the Secretary of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture in 1994, Dr. C obtained his most prized academic degree. The secretary of the AAMA signed the diplomas earned in that session. In short, Dr. Clearfield signed his diploma!
His 1992 treatise “Celestial Stems-5 Element Diet and Exercise Program,” based on Traditional Chinese Medicine dietary laws, was well received in the complementary medicine community.
In 1994 Dr. Clearfield established the first combined functional and alternative medicine pain clinic at John Heinz Rehabilitation Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He partnered with staff physiatrists, physical therapist, speech pathologist and psychologists to offer a comprehensive pain management program.
A 1995 article “Form Follows Function; The Treatment of Musculoskeletal Head and Neck Disease,” is the model used taught today for all shoulder and neck injuries.
In 1997 he chaired the 9th Annual Symposium of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture in Washington, D.C.
Dr. C was the fourth licensed osteopathic acupuncture physician in the state of Pennsylvania.
Moving his practice to Reno in 2013, Dr. William Clearfield and the Clearfield Medical Group has quickly become the source in which patients turn to when looking for alternative and functional medicine.
In 1998 Dr. Clearfield went hormonal, beginning anew with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement as a mainstay. Hormonal decline is caused by and contributes to aging. The loss of hormones is both natural and deleterious to one’s health. Appropriately restoring hormones results in youthful benefits, improvement in the disorders of aging and less, not more risk of disease.
Dr. C’s first foray into the world of hormones was pellet insertion. Pellets look like kibbles and bits, and when implanted in the hip, provided a (relatively) long term (3-5 months being able to stretch to 6 months after several pellet cycles.
And still, STILL, Dr. C knew, he knew, a piece of the puzzle was missing. Patients, undergoing a renewal from the inside, via BHRT, clamored for renewal from the outside. A suddenly energized body deserves a refreshed, healthy face.
It was Manifest Destiny, or something, that found Dr. C. wandering around the meeting rooms at the Valley Forge Sheraton in Valley Forge, Pa. in the Spring of 2002. A Botox and Juvederm information session were underway, and voila! The Facial Rejuvenation Clinic was born.
Integrating traditional injection techniques with his knowledge and needling skills honed in the acupuncture clinic, Dr. C was able to dramatically reduce the pain, swelling, bruising and untoward side effects, specifically, eye droop, occasionally seen with Botox injections. The results? A superb experience with minimal to no bleeding and little, if any, evidence of a needle mark.
“The best darn Botoxer I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to the ‘best’ in Beverly Hills.” V.V., May 2016
Relocating to Reno, Nevada in January 2013, Dr. Clearfield brings that same expertise and quickly established a similar reputation in his new adopted home.
Dr. C’s schedule quickly filled when word got out in Northern Nevada about his expertise in all things hormonal, along with his expertise in facial rejuvenation and weight management techniques.
He is a popular speaker both locally and on the national scene. At a seminar, he headlined at annual the American Osteopathic Society of Rheumatology, the “Vampire Treatment Series,” a collection of facial rejuvenation, and hormone enhancing techniques, discovered Dr. C.
On their own, “The Vampire Series” are a “Home Run” in regards to facial, hormonal and sexual rejuvenation. When combined with Dr. Clearfield’s proprietary Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Program (for men and women) you have now entered the “Holy Grail” territory of Anti-Aging Medicine.
Dr. William Clearfield trained, mastered and certified by the American Cosmetic Cellular Medicine Association humbly, but proudly recommends “The Game Changers, The Vampire Treatment Techniques“ as the missing link in the age quest to hold back Father Time.
Dr. C writes extensively and can be seen every month in Healthy Beginnings Magazine. He has mentored over one thousand physician acupuncturists in the art of needle technique and French Energetic and Japanese Acupuncture.
His knowledge of acupuncture is invaluable when turning to the field of aesthetics, combining acupuncture points and needling when performing non-surgical facial rejuvenation.
Dr. C. recently added the PDO Threadlift to his lineup of aesthetic procedures. Thread lifting uses a series of microfilaments positioned at specific areas of the face to lift the eyebrows and sagging skin over the cheeks, reduce nasolabial and marionette lines, define the jawline, reducing the roundness of the face and reduce double chins.
Dr. C. is a regular lecturer for the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine and will host a full day of training on Bioidentical Hormone Replacement, October 8, 2017, at OMED, the AOA’s scientific convention.
Dr. Clearfield has two children, Matthew, married to Elaine of Beijing, China and Jamie, married to Zvi Kresch, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and one granddaughter, Amalia, also of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Dr. Clearfield’s favorite movie, Silver Linings Playbook, featured his two other passions, ballroom dancing, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
