1. MOA: Acts as a cofactor in sulfite to sulfate conversion of methionine and cysteine.
a. Insufficient molybdenum results in sulfite excess.
b. Sulfite excess =
i. Allergic-type reactions, anemia, respiratory difficulties, skin lesions, growth retardation,
palpitations, rapid heart rate, neurological problems, headaches, visual disturbances, and autistic
behavior.
c. Autistic patients are low in molybdenum as compared to their non-affected peers.
i. Low molybdenum levels in autism =
